Why We Exist

Two stories. Two generations. One purpose.

Sammy Ward Sr.

At just 23 years old, Sammy was crushed by an 8-foot boulder while working in an underground tunnel. A sudden injury left him paralyzed, redefining everything he once knew, his body, his independence, his future. He was a husband and dad to 4 young boys and the transition from ability to disability was not gradual; it was immediate and overwhelming.  But his story did not end in that moment. It evolved.

Through perseverance, adaptation, and inner resolve, he rebuilt a life with purpose and dignity. Sammy touched many lives never letting his disability slow him down. He mentored young kids at the Boys and Girls Club in his hometown and helped individuals who were newly paralyzed at his home hospital. His journey reflects the reality that paralysis is not the end of identity, it is a transformation. One that requires support, access, and a community willing to see ability beyond mobility.

In the spring of 2025, and after living 58 years in a wheelchair, Sammy now walks alongside Jesus.

Elizabeth (Ellie) Allen

Elizabeth, the great granddaughter of Sammy Ward Sr., entered the world in 2024 with a scar down her spine and no movement below her knees, providing visible proof of a battle fought before she ever took her first breath. Born with Myelomeningocele (spina bifida), she had fetal surgery to close her spinal defect while her mom was 25 weeks pregnant. Her life began with uncertainty and questions no parent is ever prepared to face. And yet, she was born unaware that her story would become one of resilience.

That tiny body carried a strength far greater than its size. With each milestone, she has learned to adapt, becoming an act of determination. Her journey reminds us that accessibility is not a luxury; it is the foundation upon which confidence, independence, and possibility are built.
